5* all the way. Wow! I really enjoyed this. It hit so many feelings. That's the sign of a good story tho, feeling those strong emotions and empathize with the characters. So good! Thank you for this.

I was struck by how well you ended it. Those last few lines worked really well. Great story, really a romance more than lw.

I haven’t encountered many stories that would bring an old man to tears, but this was exceedingly moving by the end. Definitely a five star work.

This stoty is clearly a romance, not a loving wife story.

As a near hopeless romantic this piece is beautiful; yes, painful but so beautifully crafted. Characters simply came alive; so real, believable. Will reread soon.

You are a good writer, but this is by far the best you've ever posted.. Had to take a break at the end -- pollen in the spring makes my eyes water. My wife is a cancer survivor now for 8 years and I still think of it every time she feels tired or down. The worry never goes away.

BaldingGrayingMiddleAgeGuyBaldingGrayingMiddleAgeGuyabout 1 year ago

I'm admittedly nitpicking here, but two things bother me with this story:

1. He waited, and waited, and waited. At some point you have to move on, and in real life people move on.

2. Once in the friend zone, ALWAYS in the friend zone! I just don't see her FINALLY figuring out that she loves him at age 40, after all of that time.

AGAIN, I'm nitpicking here! I absolutely gave the story a 5 because it absolutely deserves it.

"I remember not being able to breath"

It's BREATHE, not breath, learn the difference, I don't undertand how so many writers who have a lot of stories always get that wrong!

Like a Prize fighter, you delivered the punches without telegraphing them.

Your pacing was, yes, Perfect.

Your ending too, was Perfect.

PowersworderPowersworderabout 1 year ago

It was very well written, but the ending felt sad, empty, and pointless, just like Julian's love life.

-

He wasted over twenty years pining for a lesbian, until she finally settled for him when she was two decades past her prime. He then got to spend a few brief years caring for her when she was seriously ill, until she finally died.

No youthful passion, no kids, and no happy retirement after a long life spent together.

-

He would have been far, far better off forgetting about Cat when she came out to him, and just moving on. Only a fool wastes his life yearning for a girl that isn't interested in him.

Now he's just a lonely, childless widower, who probably spent his final years grieving for his dead wife.

It's hard to imagine a more bleak and tragic ending. Julian was his own worst enemy.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

would have fit better under Romance

Parkway69Parkway69about 1 year ago

What a wonderful story. Well done.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

Great well written story that captures you from start to finish. I think Cat must have been bisexual to make a switch like that.

Their love for each other was inspiring.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

Amazing. Hopefully this marks a turning point for you; the moment you decided to stop writing the same damned BTB drivel over and over again.

sbrooks103xsbrooks103xabout 1 year ago

"I knew you were assuming we would go to homecoming together," - Yes,he should have asked, but even she admits that she KNEW he was assuming they were going, so she should have checked with him before accepting a date with someone else.

\

Is it "Lauren" or "Loren?"

\

"Lauren said she seemed to be a bit flirty when we were out at the dance club the other night." - Why didn't he tell her that he had concerns about her flirting also?

\

I figured the beginning was him leaving a grave site. I also expected them to get married then forher tohave a lesbian affair. Batted .500!

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

A full earned 5 stars for an enjoyable and touching romance even though with a really sad ending. Now it needs a new tale more cheerful. Keep going.

nixroxnixroxabout 1 year ago

5 stars - it was well written BUT it brought back some sad memories and feelings of several family members and friends who have died the same way. Reading about it is not the same as experiencing it first hand - I think it is worse. I just wish you would have put the word CANCER in your TAGS list and I would have added it to my exclusion list.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

Great story to be sure, just not sure Romance wouldn't have been a better category. But I suppose it straddles both comfortably. Well done in any event.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 year ago

I'm sure I've read this story before. Did you re-entered this?

kirei8kirei8about 1 year ago

After criticizing you for an earlier story, you had to go and write this. It' s probably the best one on this site and would rank extremely high on any site. Your story had it all and was beautifully told. Thank You!!!
