That's probably one of the first stories I've heard where someone mentioned Redding. I grew up there, but moved in my teens, but I always visit at least once in the Summer for friends. It has some excellent kayaking / hiking spots. I've done some "free hiking" myself around that area. Risky yes, but very beautiful.

Although fictional, knowing some of the people in the area I wouldn't be surprised if some of this could happen, lmao
