As Taylor took the dinner that I'd bought and set it out on her small table, I sent a bouquet of flowers to Charlotte. The card would read, 'Thank you for your part in a great weekend. May we have many more.' I asked that there be a heart or two drawn on the card. The girl taking the order said that she knew exactly what to do.

Did anyone else notice the main character's flaw?
" I don't think that the end justifies the means."
This coming from a guy about to use a camera to shoot video through a gap in the blinds.
That might constitute an illegal wiretap or invasion of privacy. At the very least, a peeping tom.
Plus, he is not a licensed PI, so he doesn't have a legal leg to stand on whatever his motives.
