When Mrs. Bose's cancer ravaged body
Was brought to the Samsan
( crematorium) set between the flower market & the busy street : her son was still in a walkin' stupor
" when we were three
We went to Kashmir for
Holidays : Mummy was so pretty ......"
The Pundit was mutterin' incantations
In Sanskrit : Ey Bosho , Fulo Chandano
& the ancient custodian
Of tge crematorium
Ghadge was smokin' a bidi
: a Poor Man's cigarette
Tobacco wrapped in a Tendu leaf
A street dog came in curiously
Sniffed @ the garlands encrusted body
Then slowly
Walked away & relieved itself of yellow liquid
Onto a lamp post .
Ghadge finished readin' Navasatta Times
A local Newspaper , folded it , stood up
& addressed the Priest " please make it snappy
My shift is ending
I ain't got all day !" .......
& thus another body
Was consigned to flames ........
Jus' ' nother day @ the
Crematorium ........................

harsh reality

the intermingle of a persons grief simply dismissed by those it does not affect, the dog pissing was heavy handed but very effective in hammering home the reality of life going on,

could probably cut the line

"onto a lamp post" and give you a better flow (pun not intended)

I 5ed, for the juxtaposition of grief with reality, because of the universal component of the way we almost all act.
