The Calico’s Tale

In the windowsill, wrapped in fuzz
The calico’s tail tapped to a solitary buzz
In that moment the cat’s mind paused
To think on where the sound was caused

Not only where, but what could it be?
A frightening monster let loose for all to see?
A dragon posing as a fly?
or perhaps a magic mouse had just happened by?

Whatever it is, I must act fast!
Wherever it is, this sound won’t last!
The calico’s mind and the calico’s tail
Used their collective thoughts on how to prevail

The tail said, “I think we should wait for it, where we once peed,
And when it zooms by, a vicious pounce I will lead!”
“Aha!” said the mind, “but if it does not come,
Our kitty stomach will be lacking some.”

The mind and the tail could not agree
So the mind asked the eyes, “What do you see?”
The eyes said, “the shadows moving near the drawing board,
Look as though they are hiding a hoard!”

The eyes, and the tail were on different notes
And hunger is all that the stomach had wrote
So the mind made a decision after consulting the nose
In a reverse flying summersault toward the cabinet it dove

And it just so happened that this odd little arc
Succeeded in helping the paws hit it’s mark
The paws suggested that they play with their victim
And the stomach wanted it immediately in the digestive system

But the nose said, “no way, it smells still alive!”
And the eyes conceded there were likely still five
It was then the ears perked into the fore
“Indeed,” it said, “there are many more.”

So the mind coordinated all the parts that it thought that it should
The legs, and the paws took them all as far as they could
The teeth, which still held tightly onto the calico’s prey
Let go of its victim when they were safely away

The stomach was in anticipation for its future feast
While the paws were happy to get themselves on the beast
And the eyes were darting about looking for possible foes
While the tail was content to swish by the toes

The nose was satisfied that they were far from the others
While the teeth prepared to gnaw on their brother
The mind was happy to finally be free from decision
And the purr box, content, revved itself to ignition
