Jesus loves me this I know
For my parents tell me so
If I’m bad then I will burn
This the lesson that I learned

A good girl goes each day to school
And learns to follow every rule
Make your parents, your family proud
Never speak your doubts aloud

All our voices raised in song
A love to last my whole life long
If only I were born a boy
I might have a scrap of joy

Each day they tried to box me in
Turned my pleasure into sin
Don’t forget you must confess
So we can judge you then as less

There were questions to be asked
False prophets yet to be unmasked
You must believe the things we say
He is the light, the truth, the way

Now I lay me down to sleep
Blessed are those who weep
Blessed are the pure in heart
You must keep pure your other parts

Teach me how to be meek
Grant that I may not seek
You must not let them see your mind
Put it somewhere they can’t find

I learned my lesson very well
Who you are will lead to hell
Everything you are is wrong
You are weak but he is strong

I don't know if tragic is tragic is the right word, but it's a long way our role models have (not) come, and most certainly there are still so many steps to go until we can agree that everyone has the same chances and liberties to enjoy life.

Thanks for sharing these pensive lines
