Draw breath
To draw out the agony

Sharp sharp squawk
And the line is airlocked
I pause it
But you can't hear it any more

I never knew you
But I knew your disappointment
I carry it with me

Dawn chorus
And the lights go out
One by one

We who toil in this landscape feel you; "but I knew your disappointment/I carry it with me" resonates in our battered psyches. How much we carry. This speaks to my battered professional soul. So stark. So beautiful. Thank you Winter_Fare. This imagery is haunting, and an oh so familiar companion. Five stars.

The power of a morphine drip,

The release delivered by sunrise.
