Seafaring sailors, staunch, stalwart whalers,
Watch weathered, white waves, wistfully wash,
Sunrise on sunset, on sandy shores sets,
Waterfront warehouses on wooden wharfs.
Seaweed and seashells, on sandy surf swells,
Splashes and surges, spraying its spume.
Doomed! Sea fearing sailors, scared shipwrecked whalers,
Watch weathered, white waves wakefully wash,
Waterfront warehouses on wooden wharfs,
Stand worried women, sad weeping widows,
Woe wicked waters, so wrathfully you wash,
Withering the wreathes against wooden wharfs.
has been mentioned in today's New poem Reviews. I do believe alliteration can provide extra emphasis in a poem, but you may have overdone it a wee bit, to the detraction of the imagery. That being said, I did enjoy it very much.
My father was a fisherman from Gloucester. This is a powerful piece. You are masterful with alliteration.
I enjoyed the poem.
